So, if you are someone who’s always on the lookout for the best skin care tips & tricks or the most suitable skin care routine then you’ve landed on the right page. We all know there are multiple skin types that can be broadly divided into 4 general categories, dry, oily, normal and combination skin. Wondering if each skin type has its own specific skin care routine? If yes then you guessed it right. However when it comes to taking care of your skin, what’s most important is to layer the products in the correct order. Do that religiously if you want to get the most out of your skin care regime.
If you often find yourself asking pressing questions like,
What is the perfect skin-care routine?
What is a simple skin-care routine?
How do I form a skin care routine which is best suited for my skin type?
Then this article will give you insights into what the whole skincare hubbub is all about!
Skin care routine
As previously mentioned, the most important thing when it comes to taking care of your skin is to know in which order one should apply their skincare products. Layering is very important as it’s the combination of products that will fetch you the best possible results.
1) Cleansing
As they say, it’s very important to start on a fresh and clean canvas. Similarly for our face too, we must start off on a clean, thoroughly cleansed face. In case you are someone who wears makeup or forgets to take it off at night after a night out then these skin care tips will definitely come in handy.
Baby oil is the best when it comes to breaking down makeup. It works better than makeup removers while being super gentle on the skin. Use Johnson’s baby oil and massage it into your skin well to take all the makeup off of your face. This step will indeed help you deep clean your pores by breaking down your makeup and pushing all the gunk out of the pores. Finish off by using a heavy-duty cleanser suitable for your skin type.
Hydrating cleansers are best suited for dry and famished skin. Avoid cleansers that make your skin feel tight, because a gentle cleanser would give you the feeling of softness not tightness.

So remember these skin care secrets before you start your skin care routine!
2) Toning
Toning usually helps in the temporary shrinking of pores. Although cleansing – toning – moisturising & scrubbing are considered to be the most ideal steps, toning is the only step that can be skipped. In fact, most dermats do not prescribe toners as a part of the skin care routine.
Toners are loaded with alcohol which dehydrates the skin. However, if you are insistent on including this step then always look for natural products like rose water sprays or the ones with naturally occurring ingredients like aloe, witch hazel, thermal spring waters and such. Remember to look for alcohol and oil-free toners. If It’s just about shrinking pores, then one could also use ice cubes and run them all over the facial skin.
3) Serum
One more important step that a lot of us forget or don’t talk about is the importance of spacing things out. It’s important to let the products seep in to get the maximum out of it. This can happen only if we leave sometime in between each step instead of slapping products one over the other. Be it makeup or skin care routine, this is the rule of the thumb.
Coming back to serums, serums being thin in texture should be the first ones to go onto a cleansed face. Ensure that your face is damp before you slap a serum on. Thin products should be layered first whereas thick oils & creams should be layered last. Hence serums get the first priority. If applied over thick products, products that are thinner in texture like serums do not penetrate into the skin and remain just on the surface, thus leading to pure wastage.
Vitamin C serums for daytime use are definitely to swear by. Experience visibly brighter and smoother skin in weeks. Try to combine niacinamide & Vitamin C together to have visibly smoother and even-toned skin.
Hyaluronic has been quite the rage of late. Hyaluronic Serums are best used at night to help restore collagen, plumpness and reverse the signs of aging through moisture restoration. H for hydration, H for Hyaluronic!
4) Eye Cream
Eye Creams fall into the healing category of products. Under-eye skin being super thin, you need to look for products that are gentle yet effective. Metal roll-ons help soothe the skin due to their cold and smooth surface. Not just that, it’s the most effective in reducing puffiness when used in the AM routine. Keep it in the fridge for better results.
Vitamin C, Hyaluronic acid, Retinol, Peptides, Caffeine help the under-eye in multiple ways by restoring collagen, inducing plumpness, reducing fine lines & wrinkles. If you suffer from dry under eyes, simply apply vaseline at night using your ring finger without putting much pressure. This practice will leave you feeling intense relief from dry patches that show up in the under-eye zone. Use vaseline sparingly to avoid contact with your eyes. Under Eye masks are also great for hydration if one’s allergic to petroleum jelly.

5) Moisturizer
When it comes to skincare and body care for women, one shoe fits all barely works. However, as per our general observation, there are certain types of moisturizers that pretty much work for every skin type. These moisturizers feel watery, not oily, yet quite hydrating at the same type. And because of their not so thick nature, they do a great job at penetration thus hydrating the skin very well.
Hydro nourishing moisturisers definitely restore moisture and are non-comedogenic. Look for ingredients like propylene glycol, urea, vitamin E when you’re buying one. Urea is naturally found on the skin & it does a great job at healing dry skin whereas propylene glycol acts as a skin conditioner. Vitamin E is a powerful ingredient that helps in reducing sun damage.

6) Spot treatment
A lot of us suffer from stubborn acne marks, sun spots, blemishes and pigmentation. This is particularly true for women of colour. Acne issues can be solved using spot treatment too. Women and Men alike, we often ask ourselves, “How do I start a healthy skin-care routine?”
What will help me get rid of spots quickly?
Honestly, everything requires patience. It’s important to dedicate at least 3 months to a particular product for it to work, so that it gets a fair chance to do what it’s supposed to do! Spot treatment cream is often used after completing the serum and moisturizing part. A lot of dermats suggest keeping this for the night routine when your body is in rejuvenation mode or twice a day if your spots & acne are stubborn. 2% hydroquinone in particular (should be used carefully), Azelaic acid, Glycolic acid, Kojic acid, Retinoids, Vitamin C are superhero ingredients to get rid of stubborn spots and pigmentation.
7) Sunscreen
Sunscreen is one step that should NEVER be skipped. Make SPF your best friend and freeze your age. Hello, beautiful skin! Ensure that you use it not just on your face, but also on your neck and hands. SPF doesn’t just help in preventing one from getting tanned but also saves our skin from severe photodamage, skin cancer and skin ageing. This should be the last step in your skin care routine. Although last, this is the most important step and we can’t emphasize it enough. The best sunscreen to use would be the one with a minimum SPF40 – SPF50, PA++. La Shield is one brand that most dermats swear by!
8) Scrubbing
Ever since we were kids, we’ve all heard beautiful models endorsing products singing about the importance of cleansing, toning, moisturising & scrubbing. Are you wondering where scrubbing comes into the picture? Well this is our favourite part. Unlike the olden days, scrubbers have now evolved from just apricot shell particles to chemical exfoliants. And hey, don’t let the word chemical scare you. Chemicals aren’t always bad, especially not chemical peels.
Scrubbing should be included a maximum once or twice a week into your routine if it’s physical scrubbers that you’re opting for. On the other hand, chemical exfoliants like AHAs and BHAs can be incorporated into the routine more than once a week. They help the outer layer of the skin peel off. However, if you’re prone to acne, we would suggest consulting a professional before experimenting with new products.
Also, extra hydration is never a bad idea. It only makes your skin plump. So don’t forget to check out our interesting range of face masks for men and women. Women especially can use this before makeup. Use our Vitamin Face Mask By Bewakoof With Hibiscus And Vitamin C for an even-toned base before you start your makeup application.
